Roundup WordPress 3.0: Information, tutorials, links

The time has come: On Wednesday 06/17/2010, the new WordPress version 3.0 (code name "Thelonious" :)) published.
Is in my view a very successful implementation, the more the path toward CMS.
For some time the developers of WordPress this way: the system was previously used mainly for blogs that are already many Internet projects no blogs are administered by WordPress.
The interest in WordPress 3.0 is huge! As I write this post is the download:
More about the numbers, see the article "WordPress 3.0 Moving Fast" by Richard Hay.

The main new features in WordPress 3.0
First Custom Menu Management
This allows new menu management system from WordPress 3.0 to menu areas to be defined within a theme (similar to the sidebars).
In the admin can then drag and drop pages from its own menus, categories, posts, tags, links, and defined "post type" composed hierarchically.
These menus are stored under one name and by selection to the existing menu in each theme area will be assigned.
About a new widget can be positioned in this manner set menus in the sidebar areas.
A nice feature I think. That makes it no longer necessary to use appropriate plugins or code.

Second Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies expanded and improved
With the latest version of WordPress has been "custom post types" introduced. Previously known only to the "post type" post (post office) is on page (Page) and link. Enhancements were made possible only by code or plugins. The best-known plug-in that direction was certainly flutter.
These new features allow you to differentiate your web sites content to better interrogate and different parameters depending on the type of fields and attributes. These can then be evaluated on individual templates.
Post Types and Taxonomies are in my view a very significant change in the direction of CMS and open up many new possibilities.
There are already some plugins that make it easier to deal with taxonomies and post type. In the screencast by Brad Williams on "Custom Post Type UI plugin" not only the functions of the plugin are described - I think it is a good overview provides the possibilities to offer these new features.

Third Administration of multiple websites on a WordPress installation
Through the combination of Wordpress and Wordpress MU is now possible on a WordPress install several websites / blogs to manage.

4th New default theme "Twenty Ten"
Since 2005, the installation of Wordpress with the theme "Kubrick" was delivered. With WordPress 3.0 will change that. The new default theme is now called "TwentyTen".
The new theme supports the new features but also in its structure (semantics, classes, styles) different than the old.
Read more at "WordPress: From Kubrick to Twenty Ten"
5th "Custom Backgrounds"
About the admin can now set your own backgrounds for the display of the page. Prerequisite for this is that it is provided in your theme Sun
The default theme "TwentyTen" supports this feature.
Here's a video about this:
Read the article "How to Enable Custom Background in WordPress 3.0 Themes" at www.wpbeginner.com
6th "Custom Header"
Similar to the backgrounds, header images and colors through the admin interface can be defined.
Also, this again is the assumption that the used theme supports this feature.
Here's a screenshot of the default theme header selection "TwentyTen"

7th editor-style.css
By calling the function add_editor_style () in the file in your theme function.php directory, can be activated individual CSS formatting for the WYSIWYG editor.
Corresponding CSS instructions are then entered into the file editor-style.css (in your theme directory).
This functionality supports the new default theme "TwentyTen".
I find this extension very useful for writing articles. If a suitable format eliminates the need to repeatedly control of text and images in the preview.
Other changes
With the installation now, individual username and password are set
The New "wp_login_form" now allows the login form to be placed within the template.
New template files such as front-page.php, sing-{post-type]. Php, author-name} {nice. Php, etc. were introduced taxonomy.php
And much more ...
And finally ...
here's the download counter after the post is done:
